HACC, PPL, WITF partner to bring residents timely advice for conserving energy
Learn how to take control of energy use, save money at free Nov. 5 event
HARRISBURG – Conserving energy – and saving money at the same time – is the goal of a free public event 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in Harrisburg’s Midtown that includes screening of a movie, timely presentations and a special broadcast of WITF’s Radio Smart Talk.
HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, PPL Electric Utilities and WITF are partnering to present an informative, entertaining event aimed at helping residential and small business customers make the most of their energy consumption.
The fair starts at 10 a.m. at the Midtown Cinema, 250 Reily St., with a free screening of “Carbon Nation,” described by director/producer Peter Byck as a film about solutions, not the same climate change sermons most often heard. The film is about money-saving solutions that will make it possible for ordinary people to adopt even if they don’t believe climate change is a big problem or that people are causing it.
At 11:15 a.m., the fair moves across the street to the Green Center of Central Pennsylvania, where PPL’s E-power team will offer practical energy-saving tips to help customers, followed at 12:15 p.m. with a Q&A with representatives from the Pennsylvania Utilities Commission, PPL and the E-power team.
At 1 p.m. a special Radio Smart Talk will be broadcast live from the Green Center, with WITF host Scott LaMar talking to guests about saving energy, reducing our carbon footprints, and sustainability. The special broadcast is part of WITF’s Green Action Day, a daylong multimedia effort in partnership with PPL, to encourage audiences to take action and live green. Throughout the day, WITF provide practical everyday tips on radio, TV, and the web to help consumers save energy, reduce their carbon footprint and support sustainability.
“This event is intended to provide important energy conservation information to the community, and to have the experts available to answer any questions,” said Julia Knight, Green Center director.
“Helping our customers monitor and manage their energy use is a priority for PPL Electric Utilities," said Frank Mikus, customer programs specialist.
In addition to free admission to the movie, participants will have free popcorn. Those attending the energy-saving sessions at the Green Center will receive coupons for 50-cent slices of pizza at Brothers Restaurant next door.
No registration is required for this free, public event.
